FAQs

Q. How can I clean my windows?

A. Fitting Security Shield prevents the build up of dirt on a window pane. Provided the windows are cleaned prior to installation, it is unlikely they will ever need cleaning again - delivering a significant cost saving where window cleaning was carried out on a regular basis. Barriers may be washed down using a pressure washer, and the glass is washed through the barrier at the same time.

Q. Can my barriers be taken down?

A. Yes. Security Shield is fitted with special security fixings which require a specific driver. Driver bits are available on request for maintenance departments and facilities managers. New plastic caps will be required on reinstallation of the barriers.

Q. Can I open my windows?

A. Yes. Depending on the type of window opening arrangement, Security Shield can be fitted to allow full or partial opening of existing windows. Sliding, sash or inward opening windows are ideal for an external apllication. Alternatively, individual barriers may be fitted to outward opening casements (see drawings - link). Barriers may also be stood away from an outward opening window on angles to allow partial opening for ventillation, although this invalidates the LPCB test rating.

Q. What about fire escape?

A. Fire safety professionals do not generally treat a window as a legitimate means of escape, and consideration should be given to alternative emergency egress when considering physical window protection.

Q. Does Security Shield require maintenance?

A. No. Security Shield is designed for external use and all parts are polyester powder coated to provide long lasting corrosion protection. In extreme conditions, barriers may be washed down and the perforated mesh will benefit from a light coating of oil. Installations over 10 years old may require repainting depending on environment.
