Changes in modern policing practices have sounded the death knell for the old style Police Hut of yesteryear.
As well as the traditional Police Box immortalised by Doctor Who’s Tardis, many of us are unaware of the hundreds of small patrol huts tucked away unobtrusively within the urban environment, and which are now sadly falling into decay.
One enterprising ex officer has determined to preserve these interesting structures for posterity, and recently approached Window & Door Security Systems Ltd to protect a small building in Lister Road, Dudley dating from 1947. An installation of Security Shield™ protected the windows from vandalism, whilst preventing the occupation of squatters and other unwanted parties.
Crucially the remit was not to alter or detract from the general outward appearance, but also to avoid a barricaded image, which would signal that the building was vacant, and almost invite investigation.
Security Shield™ is a Secured by Design product and has recently been installed at Livingstone Police Station in Scotland.
